Capitol Expressway LRT GDC

R & M was the General Design Consultant (GDC) and Civil Lead for this Capitol Expressway Light Rail Project. The project created a multimodal boulevard to enhance the corridor visual quality and to create more hospitable environment for all users. The project was designed to improve public transit service in the Capitol Expressway corridor and to better accommodate pedestrian and bicycle access to the transit service and movements by means of a multi-use path added landscaping and lighting, improved signalized crosswalk. The project extends south from the Alum Rock station along Capitol Avenue to Nieman Boulevard in the city of San Jose. The project includes four new light rail stations, and median and side-running light rail on guideway  in three locations. A new bus transit center at Eastridge Mall is included. This $210 million project is the only extension of light rail transit underway in the San Francisco Bay Area. 

Downtown LRT Platform Retrofit

R & M was retained by Santa Clara VTA to provide civil and structural design services for renovation of four LRT stations in downtown San Jose to meet ADA and new low-floor trains requirements. This $65 million project includes stations San Antonio Northbound, San Antonio Southbound, Santa Clara Northbound, Santa Clara Southbound, Children's Discovery Museum and Convention Center. The project included upgrades to meet current ADA, VTA and City of San Jose requirements.

Vasona Corridor Project

R & M was the Design Task Manager for the 2 mile, $40 million extension of Light Rail Transit into downtown San Jose. The Project includes three new light rail stations, including a new station at the popular San Jose Arena and a terminal station at San Jose State University. R & M also prepared final utility drawings for the Vasona extension final design effort from downtown San Jose to the end of the line at the Winchester station.


Capitol Avenue Light Rail Extension Design

R & M was the Lead Civil Design Consultant for preparation of final design and plans, specifications and estimates for civil elements of a 3.5 mile, $80 million extension of light rail transit into east San Jose. The project includes five new light rail stations, and four park and ride areas. R & M's final design elements included roadway, retaining wall, utilities, drainage, traffic signal, signing, striping and construction staging and traffic management plans. R & M also prepared right of way requirements, utility relocation plans and cost estimates for civil elements. R & M was responsible for approximately $35 million in civil costruction work. Construction was completed in 2004.
